Target fish
Our standard Fish Lift Tube has a 30 cm (300 mm) internal diameter. This page tells you which fish can safely pass through it – and which need a wider tube.
Fish that fit in a 30 cm tube
The following adult fish can be lifted without injury:
- European eel – excellent (slender body, up to 100 cm).
- Sea trout & brown trout – comfortable (up to 60 cm).
- Barbel – passes easily (body depth <12 cm).
- Perch, roach, chub, dace – no problem.
- Australian bass & silver perch – proven in research.
Rule of thumb: If the fish's maximum body depth (belly to back) is less than 20 cm, it will pass safely.
Fish that need a wider tube
Larger or deeper fish require a custom tube diameter (50–100 cm):
- Adult Atlantic salmon – use 50–60 cm tube.
- Sturgeon (steur) – use 80–100 cm tube (custom design).

Custom diameters
We can supply tubes from 30 cm up to 100 cm for specific projects. Larger diameters require bigger water supply pipes and valves – we will advise based on your site.
Small fish (elvers, fry)
Very small fish pass easily. Our gentle surge flow will not harm them.
